June 21st was a terrific day in many ways, but the thing that made it better than all the others was mainly the Midsummer Masquerade that was to take place that night in the cavernous dance hall of Hogwarts. The dance would kick start the new term hopefully with fond memories and smiles on the faces of the students. The hall was decorated to look like a jungle or forest of sorts with vines covering the walls and floors and a canopy of leaves obscuring the ceiling. Only a small section of the room was clear for dancing, the rest was set up with tables that looked like they were simply continuations of the overgrown floor. The major color theme was green and brown, but here and there large exotic flowers gave a splash of color such as blue, orange, and yellow. The light was given mostly by golden orbs that floated around the room, but some blossoms on the vines also seemed to glow around the edges.
At the far end of the hall from the main doors sat the stage. Where the band would stand was clear of foliage, but the rest was overrun. Even the curtains were walls of leaves instead of fabric. Over all of it sat a sparkling coat of silvery dust that was subtle, but easily caught and reflected the dim light and made everything appear ethereal and fairy-esque.
Tonight was a night for magic, more so than any other night - despite that magic was a common occurrence at Hogwarts.
As the hours ticked on and house elves finished setting up the Sorting Hat, sitting idly on a stool at the stage, cleared his throat on cue from the Headmaster. The doors swung open to allow hordes of eager students to filter in and the Sorting Hat began the opening announcements. "Good evening lads and lasses! Welcome to the Midsummer Masquerade! There's not much to say. We've got the ever charming vocal stylings of Poisoned Veritaserum with us tonight to set the mood of magical and mysterious. You've got the masques and the dancing shoes. So, without further ado - let's get this party started!"
At the last word more light seemed to spill onto the stage and five very handsome, mysterious, and dangerous looking men walked out onto it. Fangs flashed momentarily as they grinned at the audience and then picked up instruments and microphones.
"Darling, dear I smell your fear But don't you know This is right tonight?
Love can give you quite a scare But always know that I care. I won't hurt you. I won't leave you. I'm telling you that this is right tonight.
You and me. Right here. Right now. We are right tonight."
The sultry tunes of the band drifted over the room and so began the Midsummer Masquerade.
A wonderful night for a masquerade, the moon was out, the sky was clear, it was a warm summer night for the dance. Everyone was running around to find their masks and their outfit. It seemed like mass confusion, but there was only person that didn't seem to be running around like a complete and total idiot. Christy sat so calm and patient on her bed, it seemed that she wasn't going to be there at all that night, but she was going to be there.
Christy sat there and all of the people in the common room filtered out, and she was alone. She looked like a human but she still had her Pixie wings showing because she didn't like to hid them at the school. She changed into a white long elegant dress with her brown wavy hair in curls. Once again she didn't have shoes on but she didn't care. She place the white mask on her face, and looked into the mirror, she smiled. She looked at her watch it was time for her to leave.
She walked out of the common room, and fluttered down the stairs, all the way to the Dance Hall. Everyone was already there or mostly everyone was already there. She fluttered into the room, and looked around for any sign of Louis, but she hadn't seen him since the year before, and they were over, but she didn't want to be over. Christy would get over it and move on. She listened to the music, and watched couples dance, and enjoy themselves. She hovered slightly above the ground, she didn't want to sit, because then she couldn't see who came in, or who was already there, she would eventually sit, and take being alone.
Janet did not really want to go to the masquerade but her therapist said it would be good for her. She sat in her common room, looking at the mask and wondering how it could be good for her. She sighed as the other girls talked about who was going to be there, the boys they where meeting up and their dresses.
Janet did not have anyone to meet up with, and no boys so see, and she still did not have a dress on. The last dress she wore, it was not really Janet at all, it was Valvera her split personality. But her therapist told her to pick something that she felt comfortable in, not what she thought everyone else wanted. And so she pulled out a dress from her trunk with a little sigh as the girls in the room left.
The dress was a light yellow, not something she would normally were, she was usually in navy’s or dark colors. However tonight was about making something new and fresh. And so she did not sue any magic, and had her long blond hair bounding past her shoulders. Some light shadow, and the mask.
She walked into the very full room. It was like a forest, making it even more difficult for Janet who had spent much time in and out of forests. But she stepped forward, put a smile on her face and hoped for the best.
A Midsummer Masquerade was just what the school was missing last year. Juniper enjoyed the idea immensely, and helped with some of the details. She was glad to be a part of the school, and was really looking forward to teaching this term. She had designed her mask as soon as discussion of the event started.
As a professor she made sure everything was running smoothly, and it was. A sort of glamour and joy about her as she walked into the elegantly designed room. It was a beautiful display of Hogwarts magic. Her mas seemed to blend to not only the room but her personality. Made of wood and giving the illusion of the moon shinning through the limbs she walked with a confident stride.
“Ah, Christy, you look lovely.” Juniper said to the young Gryffindor pixie. Since there where few in the school she knew her just at sight, even with a mask on.

Christy watched a few more people flowed into the room. She seen a few people that she knew but she never thought that anyone would come and talk to her, but oh well if they didn't. She just hovered slightly off the ground, and looked around. She heard Professor Primrose, talking to her. She smiled and looked at her. "Well thank you" she said with a smile on her face. "You look lovely as well." She said to her.
"What a lovely night to hold a Midsummers Masquerade?" She inquired from Professor Primrose. She smiled and watched more people come into the Masquerade.
“Why thank you Christy. And it is quite a lovely night. A midsummer’s masquerade was just what Hogwarts needed.” Juniper said admiring all the work placed into the one room. She would have loved to be a student at Hogwarts, just for the experience. She however also loved her hometown of Salem, and the simplicity of everyday things.
“Will you be joining me this year for Astronomy?” Juniper inquired. She loved her students, and she loved to teach them. She was looking forward to seeing many new faces as well as some not so new ones this year.

It was a clear, warm evening. The sun was setting outside and casting a warm golden light around the Slytherin girls' dormitory through the enchanted windows in the walls and the four girls she shared the room with were bustling around, practically out of breath, trying to get ready for the masquerade ball that night. Meanwhile Tierney was sitting on her bed, unperturbed by the looming dance. What did she care if she showed up a little late? It wasn't like she had a date or anyone to impress. In fact she didn't even have anyone to see really. She'd probably scoot off to find Tristise if the lycaness even made an appearance, or she'd just mosey around being bored.
To be honest she didn't even know why she was going. Maybe just to have something to do. Maybe just to dress up. Tierney did love to dress up... She let out a long sigh of relief as the girls in her dormitory finally exited. The air in the room automatically seemed lighter and easier to breathe. Maybe that was because the open door let some of the perfume diffuse out of the room.
Standing, Tierney walked to her trunk at the end of her four poster and opened it. She dug around in it's depths for a moment and then pulled out a long blue Grecian style gown with three silver bands under the bust, at the waist, and on the hips. Lazily she undressed and redressed in the silky number before slipping on silver pumps and then grabbing her wand to put up her hair. She chose a complex up do of knots and twists with a few pieces hanging on either side of the face. Makeup wasn't so much her thing. She dusted her cheeks with blush, lined her eyes with kohl, and slid on some shimmery lip gloss. She finished off with a very light coating of glitter on her shoulders and collar bone.
Once she felt satisfied that she looked dressed up enough without looking like she actually spent time on it she pulled out a sparkling blue and silver mask and tied it around her face comfortably. Finished with her preparations she checked the clock, saw she'd arrive 'fashionably' late according to most, and with a nod of approval she set off out of the common room and into the halls to make her way to the dance.
Sure enough the Dance Hall was already quite full and the band was playing. People were dancing, laughing, flirting - all the lovely things that go on at a dance. Tierney sighed lightly, braced herself, and then entered the fray. She made her way to an empty table and plopped herself as gracefully as possible into a chair there where she decided to wait out the initial start-of-dance rush.
Having only just arrived Amelia was nervous about the dance. She knew no-one , had no one to go with and really had nothing to wear let alone a mask. Panicking she dug through her trunk desperate for the perfect dress, and hoping that it would just appear for her. She knew she had nothing to wear. She even wished she had 'borrowed' some of her sisters' clothes, which would have been perfect for tonight. Alas, Amelia had wanted to get away from France, from her sisters and from her old life so badly that she had left with the minimum of clothing .
Frantic now, as she reached into the very bottom of the trunk she felt something. A soft , slinky fabric, like nothing she had ever brought or put in her case. Pulling the garment out she saw it was a dress. The perfect dress, the dress she had imagined. It was a deep blue gradually turning to a soft purple, the torso was a corset; trimmed with a thin silver thread and it fell to her ankles it was perfect.
Amelia dug out an old hat , now satisfied with her dress and fashioned a mask from the twine and netting. Just over ten minutes later she was ready. She looked the part she had always wanted to play, the popular girl, the girl with no problems, normal. Grinning at her reflection she pulled her hair out of its bun and let it cascade over her slim shoulders. She was ready to go.
Light as air, Amelia danced down the stone steps, elated to the highest degree. She didn't know why, but she felt that things might just work out better at Hogwarts than in France. Even when she reached the doors to the dance hall , unlike usual she didn't fill with dread and she didn't start to hyperventilate. She was calm. She walked into the dance hall slowly and her face lit up. It was splendid, ethereal and how she'd always imagined magic looked like. No unforgivable curses, no death, just magic. Amazing magic in its purist form. She stood quietly , happy to watch. Happy that even if she did not participate, she could watch from the sidelines and live through the other pupils joy.

Georgie loved parties. The idea of the Midsummer Masquerade had filled her with exited anticipation over the last few weeks, and now that the night was here, she could not wait to get down there, dispite the fact she knew not many people. She was by no means a shy girl, and found the dance the perfect chance to meet new people, perhaps make a good friend or two. But mainly she intended simply to dance the night away. Besides, Ezikiel would be there. After all that he had been through, Georgie was determined he would have good time tonight. It wouldn't kill him to spend a night enjoying himself and besides, the full moon was ages away.
Never having been a fan of dresses, Georgie instead wore a golden ankle-length skirt, shot through with wild reds and browns. It was made of a light, flowing material in layered folds that allowed for easy movement, did not wiegh her down and ensured that she would not be too hot, as she intended funnel quite a bit of her ever-ready engergy into dancing that night. She had often been refered to as a wild party animal, which was rather ironic when those speaking were unaraware of her wildcat animagus form. Above her skirt she wore a light brown halter top that had a faint floral pattern of golden thread. her hair was combed back and scampered down the back of her neck in wild waves, the red-brown seemingly much more vibrand against the soft golden brown of her outfit. Glancing at herself in the mirror, she figured she looked more autumny than summery, but she shrugged the thought off and pulled on her mask, a silver feline one that sat comfortably against her skin.
Not giving her reflection a second glance, she dashed Up to the dance hall from the Slytherin common room, shoe- and make-up-less. Georgie was never one to give too much thought to looks, and if she planned to enjoy the dance she didn't want to be impaired by clunky shoes and she had never worn make-up in her life -a habit that by no means was ending tonight. Entering the Hall with the first students, she immediately ran to the dance floor, spinning to take in her surroundings. It was PERFECT!! She felt right at home amoung the foilage, and swayed on the spot to the music. Needing to move, she began prowling around the room, looking for familiar faces.
NOt seeing anyone she knew, she turned to the nearest person to her, Amelia, to introduce herself. "hi there" she said "Place looks great, dunnit? I'm Georgie."

Allie had no god given clue why she'd decided to come. She typically hated things like this with a passion. Hated dancing, hated the crowds, the noise, the fuss. But she really liked her dress. A quick stop in a muggle store and she'd found it, on sale too! It fit like a dream. The only thing she hated about it was it was strapless and she had to keep lifting it off of the floor. Oh, and the mask she found in her old dress up box at home just worked so well with it.
Unfortunately all this in mind did not stop the poor girl from feeling terribly out of place. Her hair down and allowed to curl naturally, she worried no one would recognize her and wanted desperately to leave, fiddling with her fingernails and shifting the mask she wore slightly. This was just too uncomfortable for her liking.
She made her way to a chair off to the side and sat down carefully, eyes on the band that played as she waited for something interesting to happen.
Startled by the voice that had suddenly addressed her, Amelia turned to face them. The girl looked friendly enough and was obviously buzzing with energy. Amelia calmed herself, she had never been good at introductions let alone talking to people. She kept herself to herself, because her family preferred it that way and secretly she did too, allowed to wander the pages of books and live a different life from the one that fate had dealt her. Yet, Amelia knew that this different life was staring her in the face. The life would start with this girl , she was sure of it and although it made her nervous to talk to her she plucked up her courage and replied.
" Yes. Yes , it does." she said looking around at the enchanting decorations " My name is Amelia. Amelia Whim." and she stretched out her hand to shake the girls.
Amelia studied Georgie carefully. From the dress to the shoes Amelia could tell this girl was a wild card. Noting the cat-like mannerisms Amelia assumed that she must be some form of animagi. She was obviously used to being something other than the bouncy girl before her, as if she was wiser to some secret which made her grow. Maybe not, but Amelia thought it could simply be observation of terrible incidents or that being part animal could alert you and sober you to the dangers that threatened around every turn of a street.
Nevertheless, Amelia smiled at the girl happily. She wasn't alone any more and she could be part of something rather than just watching from the sidelines , living happiness through others experiences rather than her own. Tonight was the beginning of change for her. She wasn't passing up these opportunities being handed to her by fate. It seemed she had a royal flush going for her. She was going to win this game.

Noting that the girl seemed rather shy, Georgie gave a warm and welcoming smile in an attempt to help her nerves. She herself did not know the meaning of the word shy, but was aware that most other people did not have the extrovert energy that pulsed off of her and allowed her to feel utterly at home in a rom full of strangers. "nice ta meet ya" she replied, trying to apear polite as she grasped the outstretched hand in front of her with a shake.
Amelia seemed nice enough, and with the introductions over, Georgie attempted a bit of small talk in order to get to know her better. Making new aquaintances was something Georgie really enjoyed, as one never knew where a really good, life-time friend might be lying in wait to be unearthed. Georgie's outgoing and friendly nature was perfectly suited to this task, and her lack of fear to be herself allways ensured the other person could know exactly what they were getting themselves into by talking to her. She may be considered a little bit overbearing at times, but from Georgie's point of view if somebody didn't like her, it was their loss, their problem.
"so, how long have you been at Hogwarts?" she asked. "It's an amazing place, isn't it. I've been here 5 years and still haven't seen enough of it. What house you in?" she added. The question that seemed the most obvious one to ask had almost slipped her mind.

Sean looked warily around as he stepped self conciously through the door into the dance hall. To say he wanted to be there would be a lie, but he was there regardless, and kicking himself for making the stupid decision. Mocking his earlier reasoning, he thought to himself, oh yes, now that I know some people, we might as well go to the masquerade thingy, just to see what it's like. well, I'veseen it, and it's not promising. Sean had never been a fan of crowds, and more often than not avoided them at all costs. It was just not worth the risk, going knowlingly into a room where most ot the population hated him. But alas, he had stupidly made the effort to come, and there was no turning back now.
He prowled into the room, staying near the edge and well away from the dance floor. The noise and movement of the crowds did not appeal to him in the least, and he looked around desperately for Allie or Saskia, or even Allie's brother. All he wanted was to sit with somebody he knew and.... well, to be honest he was not sure what there was to do. Perhaps he could have a dance with Allie, if he found her. He just hoped he would not run into his brother, but as he would most likely be in the thick of things and hitting on every girl in sight, it seemd there was not too much risk of that. So he wandered throught the tables, feeling acutely uncomfortable.
Sean had not wanted to dress up, and was wearing simple dress robes of a dark red hue, nondiscript and not attention grabbing, perfect for the werewolf. He wore a plain white mask that covered the left side of his face leaving the right side and anything below the corner of his mouth uncovered, and his hair was combed back out of his face. Looking around at the facy outfits of the others, he felt rather underdressed. It was with great relief that he spotted Ailis sitting by herself. He knew it was her the moment he saw her, the fact that he had never seen her this dressed up and wearing a mask not withstanding. She looked absolutely beautiful, and just the sight of her managed to get a slow smile on his melencony face as he made his way over to her.
"hey" he greeted her, pulling up a chair and sitting beside her, his happy grin lighting up his face. It was rediculous how much better the situation looked now that he was with Ailis. "looks like we're both in need of company" he commented.

Allie had half a mind to leave, sitting on the chair and bouncing her foot impatiently. The music was...okay. Not her taste by far but whatever. Other students were dancing and enjoying it so she wasn't about to knock it. She was seconds from leaving, however, seconds from running to the dorms (which would be possible since she was barefoot, she just couldn't find a pair of shoes comfortable enough to walk in) and hiding somewhere with a book.
And then, Sean appeared and a grin crossed her face. He looked amazing and she caught herself staring. They were dating, that was certain, but she still felt like she shouldn't be so obvious about her staring. Still, she was smiling at him, so very glad to be seeing him again. When he sat down beside her she put her head on his shoulder. "As long as its you I'm with, I don't care where I am." She said before kissing his cheek lightly. "You look incredible." Applause came from the crowd and Allie turned, looking towards the stage. Apparently, whoever it was on stage had finished singing.
"Did you have fun fishing with me the other day?" she asked, smiling softly.
Sky pulled a metallic red shirt over his shoulders gracefully and confidently, he buttoned a whole of 3 buttons on it. In the end is thin belly and upper chest showed, quite attractively actually. Sky laughed at his buddies who dressed themselves in dress robes, not taking the chance to wear some thing different, something that sky had been longing for for the last little while, being stuck in heavy robes was not something that he enjoyed in the least. His pants were simple dress pants, and his shoes were shiny dress shoes that shone like black glass. Pulling on his red mask that sat close to his for head and reached just below his nose, the style was of a demon, reminiscent of Japanese culture of the oni horns protruded from just above his eyebrows adding to its grizzly composition.
Somehow however Sky pulled it off well, in fact very well, his slim face and cat like eyes complimented the fitted mask. Sky stepped up the stairs from the common room adding a seductive growl to some girls who passed by, the girls returned with rhythmic giggles as sky continued up the stairs. At this time he had rethought the situation and summoned a long robe from his school chest, knowing force that he would take it off during the dance. Sky neared the entrance to the dance hall, snatching a peak at a 7th years but in a too=tight dress as he passed. Pushing through the pack of younger years and others, quite impolitely in fact, he shoved a small guy out of the way before breaching the center of the entranceway. Sky scanned the scenery it was quite nice, though he was thinking of the women, not the decor . Scanning over the people, the first, and unfortunate familiar sight that crossed his eyes was his brother, awkwardly passing the perimeter of the dance hall. Sky chuckled to himself, 'What a loser' he thought, then he noticed, he moved and he saw him sitting next to Ailis.
'Hmmmmm' he thought as he approached, sporting a devious smile over his face. Sky glided in front of them, placing his hands across his body and flung his long dress robe off revealing the shirt below, the robe fell gracefully over his arm, Extending the opposite arm, he gave her a truly seductive look, developed over years of 'Lady's Manning', splitting his lower face with a smile, he said "Well you look simply incredible, would you care for a dance" his green eyes showing through the mask, Sky spared a short look at Sean now but only for a second before gazing at Ailis again.
