 Away from it all

Sean slumped into the Library, looking warily around. This was one place at Hogwarts he felt truely at home in. All those books gave him a sense of peace and confidence that he couldn't really explain, even to himself. He had always found solace in books; throughout his years of miserable solitude they had been one of his ways to escape from it all. And now was one of those times that he needed to get away from it all.

His brother had noticed that he had a female companion at dinnertime and had given him grief about it. Sky had never expected that Sean would be able to make a friend, much less someone of the opposite gender. Neither had Sean, if it came to that. But he had been suprising himself quite a bit during the last few days, and was becoming ever so slowly more optimistic about his prospects at Hogwarts.

Now, however, he did not have Ailis with him, and his brother Sky and his cronies were being especially coldhearted. So as ever, he turned to books for comfort and escape, in the one room in the palace his rivals had seemingly never set foot, and probably never would. He found himself one of only two occupents of the vast, book-filled room, for which he was glad. He felt the eyes of the short girl a few tables away on him and moved uncomfortibly to a far corner. As much as he needed more friends at the moment, he was not tempted to go over and strike up a conversation.

He picked a few books off the shelves at random and settled down confortably into and armchair and browsed through the titles, finally deciding on "Journeys through Ireland" my Maia O'Keife. He smiled to himself as Ireland reminded him of Ailis, but he drew his thoughts into the book as he began to read.

Raven often had trouble deciding on where he would go: He found himself often trying to go to too many places at once. After all, there were so many things that needed doing, it only was natural to try and achieve as many as possible. These were obvious signs of an overachiever, but Raven didn't mind.

He figured he might as well check out what kind of books Hogwarts had to offer. He was pretty sure that it would have a vast collection, being one of the oldest castles in Britain, so he wasn't too worried. He wanted to look up a few items that could better prepare him for the road ahead. Or so he hoped.

Finally reaching the library after a laborous few minutes of ascending and descending stairwells, he noticed that there were a few students in the library. One in particular was noticeable, as the boy looked quite haggard, as if he had just been caught in some sort of storm outside. Somewhat curious, Raven walked over to the history section and ran his fingers along the spines of the books.

Reaching one that he thought may be able to help him, he plucked "The Mystical Dark Arts" from the shelves and held it, title facing inward. He didn't particularly want all the students to notice the title, as the obvious connotations attached would make him seem more like a Death Eater and less like a student.

The truth was, he wanted to be anything but a Death Eater.

Raven was still curious about the ragged-looking boy near the center of the library, but didn't want to press his luck. He figured he could just sit near him and wait for the boy to notice him. That way he wouldn't have to strike up an awkward conversation likely containing a starting phrase such as, "Hello, you look like you just got run over by a car."

As harsh as it may have sounded in Raven's mind, he smiled briefly. The boy likely had a good reason for looking as he did, so he might as well just move on. If the boy approached him, he wouldn't mind talking to him, and if he didn't, so be it. Either way, Raven was interested in seeing what the book could tell him about the Death Eaters.

More importantly, the history behind them. That way Raven wouldn't make the same mistake as last time: Letting feelings get in the way of what he needed to do.

(OOC: holy cow htis thread os so old. but what the heck, I'll reply, and just pretend that my other threads havn't happened yet.)

The book wasn't as interesting as Sean had hoped. As beautiful as IReland was, books that consisted of hundred of pages describing exactly what the landscape looked like was not one that could hold his interest for an extended period of time. He flicked through a few pages before putting the book down with a sigh, paging to the index to determine if there was any less boring chapter. There wasn't. So he put the book down and stretched as he allowed his deep and troubled eyes to glance around the room.

He noticed a new addition to the library's small population, a boy who seemed to have been looking at him a moment before. Sean did not regognise the boy, which was no suprise. Sean rarely recognised anybody, having gone to a different school every year for the entirety of his education. The boy was sitting rather close to him, close enough that Sean felt he could hardly pretend not to have seen him. However he did not seem overly keen for conversation, so Sean made not move to start one himself. He brushed his still-damp hair out of his eyes, almost smiling at the memory of what had caused it to be that way. Making his first friend in years, Ailis, was most definetly worth getting drenched in the courtyard. However it was begining to bug him that it hadn't dried out yet -it had been quite a while since the storm.

Pushing the leather-bound book away from him on the table mush like a child might push away an unappetizing plate of food, Sean turned to look at the boy sitting a short ways away from him. He reasoned that the boy did not know who he was, or his brother, otherwise he would not have taken the social risk of sitting near him. He took this as a sign he could be safe to talk to. Emboldened by the fact that he had recently succeeded in making a friend, he cleared his throat and said "Hi there." whiole drumming his fingeres nonchalently on the book in front of him.

He figured if the boy did not want to talk to him -which would not suprise him- he could always go and look for another book to read, but Sean did not altogether feel like reading much anymore. His brother's taunts and threats, consisting of much more interestingly coloured language than when they had last spoken, were going through his head. His brother really had a girft for gettin him riled up or making him feel like nothing, and as Allie wasn't there he felt he needed something to take his mind off of things, and books just wern't cutting it right now.
